Herzlich Willkommen in Berlin! Welcome to Berlin!

... Are you new to Berlin and are a student or researcher at TU Berlin?

... Is your family with you in Berlin?

... Are you looking for day care or a school for your child?

We are delighted that you have decided to move to Berlin and want to support you and your family in making your stay successful and fulfilling. The institutions for international students and researchers at TU Berlin all work hand in hand to help you get off to a smooth start.

The Family Services Office is here to help you get acquainted with the local childcare options and school system. We provide advice face to face, over the telephone and by email. Come to our consultation hours or simply make an appointment.

In order to register your child for childcare or school, they first need to be registered in Berlin: Registration requirements.

Day care

In Berlin, there is a wide range of day care options for children from a few months old to the start of school. Day care opportunities include day care centers (known as Kindergarten or Kitas in German) and professional childminders (day care mother). To obtain a place in a Kita or with a childminder, you will generally need a Kita voucher.

      School

Both the Berlin and the Brandenburg school systems offer children a wide range of development and learning opportunities at an array of public, private and international schools. The states of Berlin and Brandenburg are unusual in that primary education lasts six years (as opposed to four elsewhere in Germany).
